(Sponsors: Supervisor Croskey)

Recommended Action/Motion:

recommendation

Direct staff to research and pursue funding for emergency evacuation routes for the Sherwood Road corridor.

End

Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

In November of 2017 an ad hoc committee (Supervisors Croskey and Gjerde) was formed to discuss issues related to second access roads within the county. The Board of Supervisors authorized improved signage along North Sherwood Road to assist in evacuation if necessary.  As well, the replacement of a narrow bridge along North Sherwood Road was authorized for replacement next summer.

Summary of Request

There is an immediate need for emergency evacuation routes for the Brooktrails/Sherwood Road Community.  With a second access road for the Brooktrails community still an unfunded need, the risk of wildland fire warrants the development of an emergency evacuation route.  The Brooktrails Township is working to develop MOUs with private landowners for use of previously underdeveloped access routes.  County staff could look into funding opportunities/partnerships to clear brush and improve the road conditions on these routes.

Alternative Action/Motion:

Do not direct staff to investigate evacuation route funding for the Sherwood corridor.
