On February 9, 2016, the Board of Supervisors disbanded the Legislative Platform Ad Hoc Committee consisting of Supervisors Brown and Gjerde and referred the development of the Legislative Platform to the Board of Supervisors' General Government Standing Committee.  On December 10, 2018, the General Government Standing Committee reviewed the 2019 Legislative Platform and referred the Platform to the Board of Supervisors.

Summary of Request

Pursuant to County Policy No. 19, the Board of Supervisors adopts an annual Legislative Platform reflecting the County priorities for legislative advocacy, state and federal funding, and issues of interest to local government.  The proposed Legislative Platform includes the following categories: local control, regulatory mandates and reform, transportation, water, cannabis, disaster recovery, economic and community development, agriculture, public safety, environment and public health and livability. Supervisors Brown and Gjerde request the Board review the proposed legislative priorities and adopt the 2019 Legislative Platform.  In addition, the County’s contracted lobbying firm, Shaw/Yodar/Antwih, Inc., will provide a 2019 legislative update.
