Recommended Action/Motion:
recommendation
Accept presentation on an update on Mendocino College gateway at Hensley Creek Road, part of the "Gateway Revitalization Project" regarding changeable message sign and addition of traffic signals to lighting system under Memorandum of Understanding, Board Agreement Number 08-214/Department of Transportation Agreement Number 080109 with the Mendocino-Lake Community College District (Ukiah Area); and provide direction as appropriate.
End
Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
By Resolution Number (No.) 08-239 (December 9, 2008), Board of Supervisors (BOS) approved the "Gateway Revitalization Project" under Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Board Agreement No. 08-214/Department of Transportation (MCDoT) Agreement No. 080109 with the Mendocino-Lake Community College District.
Summary of Request:
Review details of College Gateway Project entrance sign and addition of traffic signals to lighting poles as proposed at this time. The purpose of the "Gateway Revitalization Project" is to meet and enhance pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular traffic needs, and provide a safe route for students accessing the college using different modes of travel. To that goal, though not specifically named in the MOU, the MCDoT did install poles and foundations capable of supporting signal light systems in 2010. Mendocino College now desires to complete the traffic signal system at their cost. Ongoing maintenance of the college entrance sign would be at Mendocino College’s expense. The traffic signal would remain a MCDoT facility and ongoing operation costs would be the responsibility of the county.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Not accept the presentation and provide further direction to staff.
