RECOMMENDED ACTION/MOTION:
recommendation
1) Hear Off Agenda Item Pursuant to Government Code Section 54954.2 and move that this item be added to the agenda as item 8a; and 2) Adopt Resolution declaring a local emergency related to the 2019 Winter Storms event (County Wide); and authorize Chair to sign same.
End
PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
The Board adopts Resolutions declaring local emergencies related to storms when necessary.
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Starting on February 25, 2019, heavy rains have saturated the County and caused high tides, which have toppled trees, washed out County roads and washed out creek banks, endangering public infrastructure and caused other damage and impacts. These conditions are forecasted to continue for the next three days, causing major, widespread safety problems to the County. The proposed Resolution is necessary for the Board of Supervisors to proclaim a local emergency due to the severity of the storm's impact on our County.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION/MOTION:
Do not adopt the recommended Resolution declaring a local emergency related to the 2019 Winter Storms event. This option could make it more difficult to fund repairs to storm-induced safety problems and damage to facilities.
