Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
On March 19, 2019 the Board received a presentation from the Climate Action Start-Up Group on Mendocino County’s Commitment and Mission to Fight Climate Change; endorsed in principle the proposal presented; and directed staff to schedule a subsequent workshop on the formation and structure of the Climate Action Advisory Committee, explore funding sources and initiate discussions with the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District regarding a contract for services to staff the Committee
Summary of Request:
Deputy CEO Steve Dunnicliff and Supervisor John McCowen met with representatives of the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District (MCRCD) and submit the attached draft scope of work for consideration. The MCRCD recommends implementation of a Sustainability and Climate Action Program (Program) based on Mendocino County’s Commitment and Mission to Fight Climate Change which the Board has adopted in principle. The Program will incorporate and build on work already being undertaken by the MCRCD. A comprehensive, collaborative and formal Program will assist in applying for and securing grant funding for Climate Action and Resiliency initiatives.
The Climate Action Advisory Committee (Committee) will be appointed by the Board of Supervisors and will make recommendations directly to the Board of Supervisors but will be staffed by the MCRCD pursuant to the scope of services. The Board is requested to discuss the draft scope of services and give direction to staff regarding a potential contract with the MCRCD.
