Summary of Request

The mission of the Mendocino County Fire Safe Council (MCFSC) is to inform, empower and mobilize residents to survive and thrive in a wildfire-prone environment. The MCFSC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, public organization that provides information, education, and advocacy for fire preparedness. The MCFSC also applies to state and federal grant opportunities to fund and implement fire-related projects throughout the County such as vegetation management, educational workshops, and resource development. The MCFSC was inactive for several years and in 2018, the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District (MCRCD) Board of Directors voted to pick up the organization to re-establish it into a functional entity serving the community.  The MCRCD has invested thousands of dollars to ensure the MCFSC regains compliance with state and federal tax and non-profit regulations. Since the recent fires, community demand for services from the MCFSC has been overwhelming, but still, the newly activated MCFSC supported the County in numerous activities and grant applications this past year, including vegetation management of the Western Hills of Ukiah.
