Approve retroactive Agreement with Ukiah Valley Fire Authority in the amount of $20,000 to provide investigative services to Mendocino County Sheriff's Office during investigations of suspicious deaths involving fire effective July 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019; authorize the Sheriff-Coroner to sign any further amendments that do not affect the maximum Agreement amount; and authorize Chair to sign same.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) Detective Unit is called upon to investigate crimes as well as coroner's investigations. When an investigation involves a death linked to a fire, the local Ukiah Valley Fire Authority (UVFA) provides personnel to help with the scene investigation and determination of cause and origin of fires when fatalities are involved. The fire investigators also assist with determining cause and origin of fires associated with other investigations which can be criminal in nature such as illicit drug laboratories and negligent industrial processes. This partnership is extremely valuable to MCSO and produces results that aid in the search for answers at the crime scene and beyond. This contract will memorialize historical practices and define clear expectations regarding the services desired and performed.
