PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
None directly related to this request. Resolution 05-166 provided similar authority for the County Clerk to negotiate, execute and submit documents for a similar funding program.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Governor Jerry Brown approved Assembly Bill No. 1824 State Budget Act of 2018 (Chapter 38) on June 27, 2018 for voting system replacement. Subsequently, Elections Code Sections 19400 - 19402 was added to provide general provision related to the voting system replacement contracts.

The California Secretary of State has been delegated the responsibility for administration of the voting system replacement funds. The County of Mendocino has been allocated $337,500 for the replacement of our current voting system, which requires a dollar match for reimbursement. Additionally, $10,000 has been allocated for cyber security and $10,000 for polling place accessibility that do not require a County match. The State will reimburse the County based on claims submitted to the Secretary of State.

On February 27, 2019 Mendocino County received notification from the California Secretary of State that our current voting system would be de-certified effective August 27, 2019.
