RECOMMENDED ACTION/MOTION:

Approve amendment to Agreement number SO-S18-032/PA 18-303 with Dr. Greg Pizarro in the amount of $250,000, for a new Agreement total of $300,000, for forensic pathology autopsies and related services to the County; extend the expiration of the Agreement to December 31, 2019; authorize the Sheriff to sign any further amendments that do not affect the maximum Agreement amount; and authorize Chair to sign same.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Sheriff-Coroner's Office entered into a three (3) year contract with Regional Pathology Services in 2017 for autopsy services for a total amount of $900,000. On March 26, 2019 Regional Pathology Services notified the Sheriff-Coroner's Office they were terminating the contract as of March 28, 2019 and would no longer honor their contract after that date. At that time there were 30 outstanding cases where autopsy reports were due from the Contractor. A short term contract was entered into with Dr. Greg Pizarro, who was the pathologist under employ by Regional Pathology Services at the time, to produce those outstanding reports and maintain a current capacity to conduct autopsy services on cases as they came in. Due to the current case load in the Coroner's Division, this short term $50,000 contact is inadequate to maintain the autopsy services.
