Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
Request to apply for Grant, March 7, 2017, Item No. 4(r)
Summary of Request:
In 2017 Health and Human Services Agency, Public Health, applied for and received a grant from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Safe and Active Communities Branch, for the “Prescription Drug Overdose Prevention Project.” Grant funds were issued to sustain the work of the Safe Rx Mendocino Opioid Abuse Prevention Coalition to decrease deaths and overdoses due to the misuse and abuse of opioids. Grant funds were used to increase Naloxone access in the County, improve safe prescribing practices, and conduct education and media outreach campaigns.
As part of the proposed amendment, CDPH increases the third year budget to conduct more of the same community-based prescription drug overdose prevention and intervention activities and extends the term from February 28, 2019 to August 31, 2019. Activities for this amendment include: coalition building, technical assistance, education and outreach, training, data collection, and progress reporting.
Health and Human Services Agency, Public Health, received the Amendment on February 27, 2019. Because the original Agreement was to expire one day later, Public Health signed and overnighted the amendment to CDPH to secure the funding. Afterwards, the amendment was prepared for Board approval, but was delayed due to staffing changes. Therefore, this item requests retroactive approval of the amendment.
