PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
None directly related to this request. The Board regularly approves appointments in lieu of election when there are low numbers of candidates who file declaration of candidacy paperwork.
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Three (3) Water Districts in Mendocino County (Mendocino County Waterworks, District II; Westport County Water District; and Landowner Irish Beach Water District) hold their elections each August of odd numbered years. When the number of candidates does not exceed the number of seats to be filled, and the district has not requested an election, the candidates do not go on the ballot, but rather, the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors shall appoint, in-lieu of election those candidates who filed their declaration of candidacy paperwork. Landowner Irish Beach Water District went to election. Action is necessary to produce Certificates of Appointment and Oath of Office to the two Districts that did not go to election.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION/MOTION:
Do not approve the Appointments-in-Lieu of Election and provide direction to staff.
