SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Ukiah Valley Fire Fuels Reduction and Fire Fuel Break Project is a multi-jurisdictional effort to reduce wildfire risk to 12,921 habitable structures, essential services, and critical communication infrastructure within the City of Ukiah and the unincorporated neighborhoods in the Ukiah Valley. Ukiah has a high density of homes and structures that are located adjacent to steep, undeveloped wildlands that are identified as a Very High Fire Hazard Zone. The western hills of Ukiah contain hundreds of homes scattered among heavy fuel loads, with enclaves in the eastern hills set in similar conditions. These Wildland -Urban Interface (WUI) areas are contiguous with urban neighborhoods which increases the risk of wildfire spread to homes and infrastructure throughout the Ukiah Valley.

This project will create a fire break along the ridge top between Butler Ranch Road and Nelson Ranch Road. The project will also construct four shaded fuel breaks along the northwestern portion of the Ukiah Valley from Low Gap Road to Orr Springs Road, around the Yokay...
