Summary of Request:
Mendocino County has been partnering with local non-profit agencies for emergency winter shelter services for families and individuals experiencing homelessness in Mendocino County since 1982. Mendocino County currently contracts with Mendocino Coast Hospitality Center (MCHC) to provide shelter services and related resources to clients on the coast who are experiencing homelessness. MCHC provides beds, meals, shower and laundry facilities, phone access, mail delivery, other amenities, outreach, housing assistance, and case management to qualified individuals. The Coast Extreme Winter Shelter will provide overflow beds for individuals who need a place to stay on nights that present a significant health risk due to exposure.
The Health and Human Services Agency held this contract to be able to ensure clarity of services and address potential impacts from other shelter contracts that align with recommendations made by Dr. Robert Marbut. This process has necessitated a retroactive start date.
