Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
The Board of Supervisors stated as one of their goals for the cannabis industry was to promote the creation of a regional cooperative. The cannabis regional ad hoc committee has also been discussing this approach.
Summary of Request:
Dr. Keith Taylor, a University of California’s Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Advisor, has been collaborating with Supervisor Haschak in creating a North Coast regional cooperative for cannabis and agrifoods. Dr. Taylor is applying for a Public Impact Research Initiative (PIRI) grant. A letter of support from public officials in Mendocino County would strengthen the application for this new Public Scholarship and Engagement initiative. This grant would help Dr. Taylor work to a greater degree on this project which could greatly benefit Mendocino County and other counties in Northern California.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Do not approve letter of support and provide alternative direction.
