Summary of Request:
Ukiah Neighbors ‘Vecinos’ in Action (UVA) is a committee made up of community members. UVA is taking necessary measures in matters that affect the Latino population, becoming a bridge between agencies and the community by serving as a platform for neutral information to build an environment of trust and positive relationships with other organizations serving the public.
In recent months UVA has proven successful in reaching the Latino community with accurate, accessible, and timely information during the COVID-19 Pandemic to improve the health and well-being of the Mendocino County community.
Through the proposed Agreement, UVA will expand equitable communication efforts by:
hosting educational forums and bilingual podcasts; and reporting via Periodico al Punto and the KZYX program “Mendo Latino” on topics including COVID, Mental Health Care, and Public Health topics of interest to the Latino Community. Additionally, UVA will continue to work with a network of partners within the Latino Community, champions within neighborhoods, and key community leaders to analyze health inequities in the Latino Community, and provide effective feedback on solutions to implement county-wide.
The proposed Agreement is retroactive due to transition issues with the dissolution of the Health and Human Services Agency, first-time contractor UVA’s unfamiliarity with County processes, and the short-notice-need for Public Health to continue services yielding only a short time frame to execute the contract.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Return to staff for alternative handling.
