PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
The Board of Supervisors approved the funding award for purchase of hotspots and data for a Library mobile hotspot lending program on January 4th, 2022: agenda item 4v.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Federal Communications Commission Emergency Connectivity Fund is providing for new and innovative ways for the public to gain access to the internet and technology through libraries. COVID-19 has created an increased need to provide digital resources for people who do not have their own Wi-Fi service or laptop by providing the ability to borrow a hotspot and/or Chromebook with their library card. Patrons will be able to use the Chromebooks away from the Library branches and access the internet through the use of a hotspot in areas which receive cell service. The devices will assist patrons in having the ability to complete important tasks such as applying for jobs, completing coursework, or applying for assistance.
