Retroactive Approval of an Emergency Purchase of Two Livescan Machines in the Amount of $13,783.82; and Approval to Add the Livescan Machines to the County's List of Fixed Assets for FY21-22

RECOMMENDED ACTION/MOTION:
recommendation
Retroactively approve an emergency purchase of two Livescan machines in the total amount of $13,783.82; and add the Livescan machines to the County's List of Fixed Assets for FY21/22.
End

PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
The Board approved fixed asset purchases as necessary throughout the year.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Department of Justice (DOJ) recently issued a mandate necessitating immediate replacement of two Livescan machines in the Sheriff's Office. One of the machines is fifteen years old and the other is four years old. Hardware support is no longer available on the machines. If they fail it will severely impact the Sheriff's ability to timely register sex offenders, positively identify people taken into custody for crimes, and provide fingerprint identification services throughout Mendocino County for a variety of reasons, including officer safety.

In order to comply with the DOJ's mandate, and to make sure there is uninterrupted service by the specified time period, an emergency replacement purchase has been processed and the Sheriff's Office is seeking retroactive approval.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION/MOTION:
Return to staff for alternative handling.
