Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

The Board has approved the Northern Nights Music Festival over the past several years.  The most recent being on July 9, 2019, Item 4v. The Board additionally approved applications on June 20, 2016, Item 4v; June 20, 2017, Item 4af; July 10, 2018, Item 4z.                      

 

Summary of Request

Pursuant to Mendocino County Code 6.16, any outdoor festival with a gathering of one thousand (1,000) or more individual persons for the primary purpose of attending, participating in, or observing a musical or theatrical performance, is required to obtain Board approval.  An application has been received for the Northern Nights Festival 2022, sponsored by Northern Nights Music Group, LLC. to be held July 15-17, 2022.  The event will be held at Cooks Valley Campground, the principal location being 83950 Road 442E in Piercy.  The event includes camping, live music, and provisions for food and alcohol vendors.  Over the course of the two-day event, approximately two thousand (2,000) attendees, including staff and performers, are expected to attend.

 

The Tax Collector has compiled the required information, attached to the agenda item, and after finding it to be complete, submits the application to the Board for approval.  The accompanying documents include the following: local authorization form from the Department of Planning and Building Services, application from the event coordinators, proof of ownership and written consent from the property owner, statement of adequacy from the Sheriff’s Office, and statement of adequacy from Environmental Health.

Deny application and request alternative recommendations (Due to the timing of future Board meetings and the event, Board approval may not be attainable)
