SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Staff is requesting Board authorization for Purchasing Agent or designee to negotiate and execute a joint venture agreement with the City of Ukiah for the potential conversion of the Low Gap Regional Park tennis courts to pickleball courts.

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States and in Ukiah. It has elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong played with a paddle and wiffle ball. While popular mostly amongst seniors because of its low impact and accessibility, it is a growing sport of all ages and athletic skills.

Since 2018, the pickleball community has approached the City of Ukiah and County for dedicated pickleball courts.

The City is looking to upgrade the tennis facility to become dedicated pickleball courts at Low Gap Regional Park. There are currently two tennis courts that could be converted to six pickleball courts. The conditions of the tennis courts are poor, but improvements resulti...
