Summary of Request

It has been a priority of the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors over the past several budget years to address issues related to homelessness in Mendocino County. The Department of Social Services, in collaboration with the Departments of Public Health and Behavioral Health, has historically focused a growing number of programs on that priority and has pursued various grant funding opportunities either in partnership with other local agencies or by applying directly. In the past two fiscal years, the State of California has enhanced current local programs related to homelessness, as well as launched new ones,  both financially and through targeted technical assistance.

With these grant funding opportunities and the allocation of substantial new resources through California’s 2020 and 2021 budget processes, Mendocino County and its community partners have engaged in significant new opportunities and projects designed to address the homeless crisis. Today’s presentation provides an update on activities related to addressing homelessness in Mendocino County, and includes both written and overview presentation materials.

Today’s agenda also includes a request for endorsement of the 2022 Update to the  Strategic Plan to Reduce Homelessness in Mendocino County, as prepared by the Mendocino County Homeless Services Continuum of Care. At this time, the Department Head is seeking the conceptual endorsement by the Board of Supervisors of the Funding Objectives described within the updated plan as a guide to staff responsible for the implementation of homelessness-related projects and program.
