Approve retroactive Memorandum of Understanding between Mendocino County Public Health and Sonoma State University, in the amount of $0, to develop a clinical training program to provide nursing students with Public Health experience, effective October 16, 2023, through October 15, 2028; authorize the Public Health Director or designee to sign any future amendments that do not increase the maximum amount; and authorize Chair to sign same.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
While Mendocino County Public Health (PH) owns and operates a general acute care facility, skilled nursing clinic, and various outpatient clinics, Sonoma State University (SSU) operates fully accredited undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. The proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between PH and SSU develops a clinical training program available at PH locations, for qualified SSU nursing students. This program provides PH with an opportunity to strengthen the local Public Health workforce via working partnerships, while allowing SSU nursing students to gain invaluable administrative and clinical education and training during their stint with PH. This partnership also increases the chances of SSU students holding a career with Mendocino County in the future.
