PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
The Board of Supervisors approved grant applications for the Library on June 5th, 2018: agenda item 4s; on December 4th, 2018: agenda item 4q; December 17th, 2019: agenda item 4h.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The IMLS Cares Act Grants Program is provides funds to libraries to assist in the response to COVID-19. COVID-19 has created an increased need to provide digital resources and the grant provides an option for internet access to people who do not have their own WiFi service. Since the Libraries will be accommodating fewer people in the branches due to physical distancing requirements, by checking out a mobile hotspot patrons will be able to access the internet from their home or other place at which the hotspot can receive cell service.

The grant application is for 100 mobile hotspots and would cover monthly unlimited data for two years and also provide for monitoring software to be able to disable the hotspots if not returned to the Library after the end of the checkout period.
