RECOMMENDED ACTION/MOTION:

Adopt Resolution accepting the Sonoma Mendocino Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) and Endorsement of the Sonoma Mendocino Economic Development District (SMEDD) to apply to the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) for Economic Development District designation; and authorize Chair to sign same.

PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
September 23, 2014, the Board of Supervisors (BOS) approved a Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) with the County of Sonoma for the formation of the SMEDD. On July 21, 2015 the BOS approved an amended JPA, which incorporated new rules from the Federal EDA for economic development districts.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Planning and Building Services requests the BOS accept the Sonoma Mendocino CEDS and endorse the District's application to the U.S. Economic Development Administration. In July 2015, a JPA was approved by both counties to create the Sonoma Mendocino Economic Development District to oversee the collaboration. A nine member board of directors, representing both counties, manages the District. The EDA, an agency within the Commerce Department, offers a program that recognizes multi-county regions working together as Economic Development Districts (District).
