Adopt Proclamation recognizing the Accelerated Achievement Academy, instructor Pat Garrett, and two of his students, Eloy Lopez, and Alyssa Quail, for achievement/excellence in their commitment to the application and use of hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation; and authorize Chair to sign same.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Unexpected cardiac arrest is a major cause of premature death. Effective bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest can help reduce mortality. Studies have shown that early awareness and education focused on our youth will help make CPR a universal skill for future generations.

In 2014, Mendocino County founded Save Lives Mendocino, a program to support local teachers as they train students on the use of CPR. The Public Health Branch of the Health and Human Services Agency purchased Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) using Maddy funds (Emergency Medical Services funds) in support of Save Lives Mendocino. Save Lives Mendocino held the first public CPR training at the Mendocino County Apple Fair the same year.
