PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
Fee Amnesty periods have been approved annually since 2015, and Food for Fines has been approved annually since 2016.
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Mendocino County Library is requesting approval to offer a fee amnesty period for patrons from December 23rd through January 3rd. The Library is also requesting that non-perishable food for the needy be accepted in lieu of fines from December 23rd through January 3rd.
The fee amnesty and Food for Fines programs have been very successful in prior years in bringing back patrons who may have not been able to check out items or were concerned about returning library items due to overdue fines on their account. In addition to bringing items back into circulation at the library, Food for Fines also benefits the local community because the canned and non-perishable items are donated to local food banks. Each non-perishable food item brought in will reduce the patron's library fines by $2.00 up to a maximum of $10.00.
