SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Often during the winter and in the higher recreation areas in the mountains of Mendocino County we receive significant snow fall. Residents visit the recreation areas and sometimes become stuck in the snow on roadways and off road trails. Search and rescue can be called out as well as deputies to conduct searches and rescues of residents. Mendocino County has many areas that are located in the wilderness at higher altitudes, not easily accessed and can lack communication capabilities. It is critical for rescuers to have proper rescue equipment in these occasions both for staff safety and the safety of the public in need of a rescue.
