PREVIOUS BOARD/BOARD COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
The Board of Supervisors received an update from the Department of Transportation on the Statewide Needs Assessment at their meetings in December 2009, 2010, and 2012.

SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Mendocino Council of Governments has funded periodic updates of the Pavement Management Program since 1994. The most recent update was conducted by Nichols Consulting in 2017. The lack of investment in pavement maintenance is a serious and costly problem. Without more investment in maintenance, existing streets and roads will deteriorate more rapidly and will cost much more to bring back up to an acceptable level of service. Nichols Consulting has prepared a report for the California State Association of Counties and League of California Cities on the statewide condition of local streets and roads that shows the lack of investment in pavement maintenance is pervasive and at a critical level. It also shows that local streets and roads in Mendocino County have slipped into the "failing" category in the past decade.

ALTERNATIVE ACTION/MOTION:
Do not accept the presentation and provide further direction to staff.
