SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
The Homeland Security Grant is awarded on an annual basis. The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office manages the grant for the County. The Mendocino County Gang of Five committee considers public safety project requests and votes to appoint funding to projects they deem necessary that will promote public safety to Mendocino County. The Mendocino County Gang of Five committee voted on and approved this purchase. The Metro Traffic Sign will be used to improve the City of Ukiah's public notification system during emergencies, such as, fires, floods and PSPS events. The City of Ukiah is part of the operational area of the County of Mendocino and this project qualifies for funding under the Homeland Security Grant. The sign, although stationed with the City of Ukiah, can be used anywhere in the operational area and is owned by the County Office of Emergency Services. Mendocino County Executive Office/Central Services collected three bids for the project and the Road Safe Traffic System quote was the best of three received.
